July and holidays
Today is the fourth of july, and that means a lot of different things to different people. I remember the fourth of july as a means to tell when summer was about half over, so I knew I had to savor the last bit of it before school. Since my days of summer vacations I've joined the military though. I feel as though I'm supposed to feel self righteous..or vengeful on today. Really it just serves as a reminder to why I really don't like holidays. I find that I've always enjoyed the time spent with my family having fun on the 4th, rather than the times that I was learning about the importance of it. I find I generally dislike holidays though. There's no deep meaning to why I do, I think it's just that people tend to get lazy and indignant on holidays. I had to work today, 4 hours, it wasn't terrible, or for that matter different from any other day. Although I got paid $12 an hours instead of $8 for working on a holiday. But all my co workers were complaining how it was against their american rights to work on a holiday. I believe there's a fine line between celebrating one's freedom, and being lazy

I actually don't remember it being specified in our rights as Americans that we don't have to work on a holiday. People are so weird when it comes to Nationalism and politics. Part of the reason I am not the biggest fan of holidays is the insincerity of those who celebrate them. They get all worked up for the holiday but haven't put any thought into it or why they are celebrating it. At least you don't get worked up over them. Hurrah for the day to spend time with the family!
